Dauphine London students excel at UCL Model United Nations Conference
The decennial edition of the UCL Model United Nations (UCLMUN) conference, hosted by University College London’s United Nations Association (UCLUNA), welcomed approximately 300 delegates from across the globe, making it one of the largest MUN gatherings in the UK.
This year’s conference theme, “A New Dawn: Towards a Decade of Leadership, Innovation, and Diplomatic Excellence,” underscored the critical importance of reimagining global systems for future generations.
Delegates tackled pressing global challenges in committees such as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), ECOSOC, the World Health Assembly (WHA), and the Crisis Committee. A highlight for many was the Francophone Conseil de l'Union européenne (Council of the European Union), conducted entirely in French—a feature that resonated with Dauphine London’s MUN Society.
Represented by six members, the Dauphine London MUN Society actively participated in the Francophone committee, debating two pivotal issues:
Supporting the Mental Health of Refugees: Delegates explored strategies to improve access to mental health services for refugees within the EU, highlighting the need for integration programmes and sustainable funding mechanisms.
Promoting Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security in the EU: Discussions focused on advancing agricultural practices and securing resilient food supply chains across EU member states to ensure long-term sustainability.
For several Dauphine London participants, this was their first MUN experience, and the insights gained were invaluable. Engaging in high-level debates within the EU framework not only deepened their understanding of European policies but also honed their negotiation and public speaking skills.
Beyond the committee sessions, the conference featured two social events, fostering networking and collaboration among delegates. UCLMUN also upheld its commitment to sustainability, with eco-conscious organisational practices and The Polaris Journal offering thought-provoking articles on the conference's debated topics.
Participation in UCLMUN 2024 proved to be an enriching opportunity for Dauphine London students, equipping them with the tools to thrive in international relations and diplomacy. As the team looks forward to upcoming conferences, this milestone marks an exciting chapter for the Dauphine London MUN Society.
